Magic Show brings together a diverse group of women illustrators from the West Midlands and beyond including London, Leeds, Norwich and Edinburgh. Exhibitors are Jane Anderson, Mina Braun, Helen Entwisle, Ruth Green, Kate Hindley, Mary Kilvert, Sarah Lippett, Beth Morrison, Sarah Ray, Karoline Rerrie and Daisy Whitehouse, a mix of recent graduates, emerging and experienced illustrators.

Each illustrator has interpreted the theme of magic in their own distinctive style and created new work especially for the gallery. They have used the opportunity to explore hidden talents and abilities which they don’t often get the chance to showcase when producing two dimensional illustrations. The group has stitched, paper cut, painted, printed and conjured up an array of unusual artwork to fill the whole gallery interior ranging from small artists’ books to hand sewn characters and large scale installations.

The Magic Show will be at Solihull Gallery from the 4th of April until the 11th of June 2011.

Magic – It’s here!

Our third postcard book MAGIC is finally hot off the presses. It features the work of eleven Illustrators including a few of our regulars Karoline Rerrie, Gemma Correll, Anke Weckmann, Sarah Ray, Currentstate, Yee King Tuit, Kate Hindley, Ruth Green, Mary Kilvert and two new contributors Alys Paterson and Beth Morrison. The book contains 22 gorgeous postcards and the covers were designed by the uber talented Kate Hindley. Take a look at our gallery for more images from the book.

An exhibition of the same name will take place at Solihull Gallery in 2011 and on to other venues later in the year. Keep an eye the blog and our tweets for more details.

Travelling Menagerie hits Here & Now

Our ‘Travelling Menagerie’ exhibition launched on Fri 2nd July at the Here and Now Gallery in Falmouth, and runs throughout July until 31st. The exhibition features an array of artwork from the ‘Menagerie’ postcard book as well as new work based on the same theme!

A few of us were at the opening including Kate Hindley, Currentstate (Jane Anderson), Yee Ting Kuit, Karoline Rerrie, Ruth Green, Helen Entwisle and Michelle Turton. Here’s a few images from the night.

GWD AT UPFEST BRISTOL

Tomorrow some members of GWD will be taking part in this years UPFEST, joining fellow creatives Decked, Boys Who Draw, Inkygoodness & more in a very special Live Illustration Drawing event! Organised by Bristol illustrator Dave Bain, this new addition to the UPFEST programme centres on local Bristol illustrators & friends coming together to create one-off drawings which will then be auctioned for charity. It’s the first time illustrators have been included in the event, and promises to be a very exciting and fun-filled day!

UPFEST will be staged at the Tobacco Factory, Southville, Bristol on Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th June.

Girls Who Draw invite you to come and visit their amazing ‘Travelling Menagerie’ which will be at the Here and Now Gallery in Falmouth throughout July. The exhibition will feature an exotic array of artwork from the ‘Menagerie’ postcard book as well as new work based on the same theme.
